When I read the script for this scene, the way the writer had portrayed the actions of the characters made it seem very uplifting. But to me, it was very sad. One of our characters has several health problems, and the other in an abusive relationship that she doesn't know how to get out of.
I didn't want to force the audience to feel the way I did about the scene, though. So, I purposefully tried to make this sound very sad and uplifting at the same time.
A lot of the synthesizers in the show, I really tried to emulate that creepy surreal sound that was in old sic fi movies, but making them more down to earth. This goes a long with what I said before about the synthesizers representing the northern lights. There are several surreal...not possible things that happen in the show. I guess you could call it magic. That's what I tried to capture as the show progressed.
